Dec. 1st, 2005 11:59 pmAha. We have a
dont_bomb_us feed. Should make for interesting reading...
Which leads us, via tangent, to...
Kung Fu Hustle makes references to a lot of other movies, but not in an annoyingly obvious way. The scene in which the Landlady pursues Sing is right out of an old Roadrunner cartoon. And the two assassins in suits, hats, and sunglasses who tell the gang boss that actually, they're musicians ... did anyone else hear "Are you the police?" "No, ma'am, we're musicians" in their head like I did?
Ah. Good. So that wasn't just me thinking that, then... :)

Doctor Who - getting younger every day...
Nov. 16th, 2005 09:08 pm"We live in an age now where you would never cast an older Doctor," says Russell T Davies in an interview for the show. "Absolutely never. Never over fifty, I wouldn't say over forty-five actually. So we'll always have young Doctors now, because that's what a hero is these days."
He goes from "never" through "always" to the important bit - "these days". These days won't last forever. Perhaps the targer audience will remain hostile to the idea of an older Doctor for years to come. But perhaps it won't - SF's in a slightly different situation from police procedurals and Doctor Who isn't an ensemble show like West Wing or Six Feet Under...
...but even so, Patrick Stewart seemed to work in ST:TNG and Edward Woodward worked just fine in The Equalizer. Never say never, hmm?

Full list of Labour rebels. Special mention to Bob Marshall-Andrews and ex-minister Frank Dobson.
I was sure Blair would - somehow - get that clause through. I'm immensely glad that he didn't.

Bread and circuses
Nov. 3rd, 2005 09:49 pmDavid Davis and David Cameron (the men who Would Be Prime Minister) will fight to the death in a televised arena grudgematch tonight, armed with rusty meathooks.
Well, ok, possibly not - but I still like the mental image. What we do get is the pair of them debating on a special Question Time, hosted by David Dimbleby. They'll be facing questions from the audience. BBC1, 10:35 UK time.
It should be interesting. Not quite up there with Bartlett vs Ritchie, but still... :)

Comics - Alan Moore parodies Frank Miller
Oct. 25th, 2005 02:21 amJust spotted that someone has posted "Grit", Moore's Daredevil spoof, on LJ. I do have a copy of the original issue (it's one of the Daredevils ones that also contained Captain Britain) somewhere, but despite promising to wave it at people, I've failed to find it for a while.
So...
Perhaps not entirely worksafe. :)

rbkisses and DJing by the Insanitorium team until the early hours.
See some of you Coventry goth (and 'not-exactly-goth') folk there? Coventry's been quiet lately and this strikes me as a very good use of £5 and a spare evening. It'd be nice to see a few other Midlands types there, too - it's been a while since we've had a proper gathering of the horde at the Jailhouse, so...
The Last DanceIt's part of the UK tour being arranged by Martin/oldgoth (Insanitorium) and it's a bargain, in my opinion. A chance to see Calfornia's TLD playing a local venue, support from Southampton's
+ Razorblade Kisses
+ TBA
November 18th. £5 on the door.

Winning hearts and minds
Oct. 20th, 2005 11:36 amAnother day, another unfortunate PR incident for the US military - this time in Afghanistan. In front of an Australian news crew.

"buy product x when the wage arrives"
Oct. 18th, 2005 03:12 pmOld news to those who've been reading Slashgoth, but...
Goteki will be following up on the initial online/mp3 release and making their second album, 'Revolution' available on CD November 5th. Available via MNS and Resurrection Records.
[I liked Goteki O/S a lot - with the line-up/style changes since then, it'll be interesting to see just where the sound goes now...]

When you see this on your friends list, quote Shakespeare
"When beggars die there are no comets seen; The heavens themselves blaze forth the death of princes." - Julius Caesar
"I am but mad north-north-west: when the wind is southerly I know a hawk from a handsaw." - Hamlet
"Mad world! mad kings! mad composition!" - King John
