David Davis is actually quite dangerous when wielding a rusty meathook. Cameron did not come out of that well - I wonder if he's still the favourite to win?

I'm never likely to vote for either of 'em, but it'll be interesting to see where this one goes.

Did you see the bit where somebody told Cameron he couldn't have a bath outside his stage managed something or other?

Oh yes. That bit was good. :)

A little later in the debate, a retired lecturer in the audience had a go at him, too - a nice, sharp summary of why his debating style is all flash and no substance, detail or explanation.

What did that person look like?

I agree! I thought Davis was ace. All his answers were substantial, and he gave clear examples from experience to each question...cameron is quite simply a walking tag-line!

Oh balls, I'd have liked to see that. :o(

Yeah - he's obviously a lot better at interactive media stuff than he is at set piece speeches... definitely came out of it the stronger - and seems to be enjoying being the underdog for a change. Labour will be desperately hoping Davis wins it, but I still think it's unlikely...

Unfortunately I missed it having not, in fact, realised it was happening. Someone on BBC Breakfast described it as like watching a politician debate a celebrity.

I still think Davis would be a disaster for the Tories. Did you see his speech at the conference? Woeful, utterly woeful. While Cameron may be short on specifics, Davis's specifics place him far too far to the right to be an electable candidate.

I just can't believe I left the country for the better part of three weeks and the tory leadership contest is STILL GOING ON! Somebody wake me up when it's over.
