I have a nasty habit of watching DVDs in blocks - 2-4 episodes of something at a single sitting. Depending on the show, this may have... side effects...

Too much West Wing (4 episodes or more) definitely warps my speech patterns and sense of humour for a little while. But it's remarkably easy to watch...

More than two episodes of Deadwood and it starts to get to me. Somehow. Or maybe that's just the accompanying whisky...

Two episodes of Mad Men seems to be about as much as I can watch at once.

And I've never been able to watch more than a single episode of Six Feet Under at a time. It's just too bleak - mostly due to the way it's filmed, I think.

I've just started watching season one of Dexter. I think I could happily watch quite a lot of this in a single night. I'm not entirely sure what that would do to my brain, though...

The tricky bit about decorating this house - as opposed to the awkward, expensive and time-consuming bits - is working out what I want the finished room to look like.

Life...

..is pretty good.

Ok, bits of it aren't, but they're not things I have any influence over - family health issues and the like - so there's not much point getting stressed over them. You do what you can, but there's a limit.

On the other hand, the rest of it's not bad at all. I have good friends, a (rapidly) improving house and various other things to be cheerful about. :)

(I can't dance properly terribly well, or so it seems, but I'm having a certain amount of fun trying, so that's ok...)

Invocation

Do I want to do London / Invocation next weekend? Possibly with a bit of random wandering around London beforehand.

I think the answer is yes, but I'm also a little scatterbrained and unsure whether or not I've already booked myself up for something else. I don't think I have, but...

I'd half-intended to make it to the last Vagabonds, but didn't in the end -  and it's about time I made it back to a few more goth nights.  So, is anyone else planning to be there...?

Ah, the gentle sounds of a happy washing machine...

...music to my ears. :-)

It's been a very tiring (long) weekend. Some of it was quite fun. A lot of it wasn't fun at all. Somewhen along the way, I realised that it's been more than a week since I had a quiet night in.

There may be a more detailed review/report later. For now, I need some sleep.

First Scouting For Girls, now Nerina Pallot - when did this stuff start worming into my head...?!

Should I just burn my goth card now, hmm?

...well, evidently I shouldn't, as I've just come back from an Attrition gig which I rather enjoyed (support band Novus UK, who I hadn't seen before, were - unsurprisingly - a little reminiscent of Faithful Dawn. This is no bad thing...). I guess I'm just in an upbeat fluff mood right now...

Oh, and Attrition's side-project Imprint covered Love Will Tear Us Apart - not actually sure whether I liked it or not, which must actually be a vote of confidence given how much I like the original. Although I now need to listen to lots of Joy Division, just to counterbalance the cover and fluff... :)

Right. Time to get my act together and go out to listen to loud music and drink... er.. non-alcoholic things. Probably.

See some of you down at the Tuns, I expect...?

(as requested by [livejournal.com profile] kest )

Let's start with a difficult one, shall we? "What do you want?" might be the underlying question when you talk about ambition; on the other hand, the question may actually be closer to "So, how are you keeping score...?".

House stuff

Today's work finished early and I've just seen the state of the  bathroom. It's not quite complete, but it really does look good.

I haven't been able to say that about it for a very long time. :)

Today has been productive. The wireless network is now up and running, at long last. The bathroom's looking better. And I've just started the planning process for the kitchen extension - work on the detailed plan starts in a week or so. :)

Heh.

Whitby. October. I'll be there.

Not doing the Spa this time, and probably won't be there until Friday. Heading back Monday.

Should probably think about accommodation at this point, shouldn't I?

Bah. I seem to have run out of storm. I was enjoying that.

On the plus side, the bathroom now has a bath again (albeit with a big "Do not touch!" sign on it), the courier got here and collected the picture for Harrods, BT have upgraded my broadband, the bathroom door's been replaced with one that opens the other way and stuff is generally going well.

The gardeners didn't turn up, but that's not entirely unexpected. And you can't have everything, can you?

...if anyone happens to know somewhere in the midlands that buys Agas/Rayburns for renovation and resale, please let me know. Or anywhere further afield that would be interested in collecting one from the Midlands, for that matter.

I'm clearing out the conservatory and the (old, rusty) Rayburn needs to find a new home...
