Mmmm. I have a tendency towards yak shaving, but after several years of exposure to "just fix it" compromises I'm not sure its wrong.

There's some truth to that, as well.

I'm a horrible perfectionist when I'm working. But... I dunno. If it gets to the yak shaving point, I wonder whether I'm actually worrying too much about details when the bit that's broken is a more general underlying principle.

You shouldn't need to shave yaks - well, ok, not unless they're multipurpose yaks and stay shaved forever.

Er. I'm really not sure where that one was going. Or if it makes sense outside my head. But you know what I mean. :-)
