"We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance"
-Japanese proverb
...so, as I may (or may not) have mentioned, since early September I've spent my Wednesday nights out with Elaine (WINOLJ) and
broom_stick, learning to dance East Coast Swing. It's been a great deal of fun.
It's not something that comes naturally to me - as with anything of that nature, I don't easily translate instructions (written or spoken) into movement. Still, I seem to have coped...
The important bit is that they run a twelve week beginners course, which restarts next week. So if anyone reading this is sufficiently local and is interested in joining us, now's a pretty good time to start...
"Dance first. Think later. It's the natural order."

- NYE is not the right day to go shopping for songs to download for your PS3 SingStar game. Everyone else is trying to do the same thing, at the same time. It won't cope too well.
- SingStar really shouldn't allow you to do your own karaoke version of Leonard Cohen's Famous Blue Raincoat.
- ...or Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart, for that matter.
- On the other hand, Falco's Rock Me Amadeus is a welcome addition to the catalogue. Although it's not the easiest one to sing...
- ...and if you really want to sing along to Auld Lang Syne, you can get Die Toten Hosen's version on one of the German PS2 releases. Might be a bit hard to find, though. :)
Y'know, I'm going to steal a Neil Gaiman quote via
geekchick , since it says this much better than I could:
...I hope you will have a wonderful year, that you'll dream dangerously and outrageously, that you'll make something that didn't exist before you made it, that you will be loved and that you will be liked, and that you will have people to love and to like in return. And, most importantly (because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now), that you will, when you need to be, be wise, and that you will always be kind.

Possibly slightly more NSFW than most QC. It also made me laugh a lot.
Almost enough to forget the trauma of the original blog post it references.

Dec. 15th, 2008 11:37 pmI'm feeling a little more festive after opening today's post - my first Christmas card of the year, from Kath & Peter at the Storrbeck. Which is especially nice since I didn't actually end up staying there this year.
The other letter was from the RSC (who seem to think I'm a General, for some odd reason), to inform me that David Tennant has withdrawn from Hamlet. I think I was already aware of that - and the letter forgot to mention that André Tchaíkowsky has also been replaced by an understudy...

No One Must Know
I know a few people who resemble this one. Obviously, though, I'm not one of them. If I was, I wouldn't be sharing it with you, right? :)
