"We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance"
 -Japanese proverb

...so, as I may (or may not) have mentioned, since early September I've spent my Wednesday nights out with Elaine (WINOLJ) and [profile] broom_stick
, learning to dance East Coast Swing. It's been a great deal of fun.

It's not something that comes naturally to me - as with anything of that nature, I don't easily translate instructions (written or spoken) into movement. Still, I seem to have coped...

The important bit is that they run a twelve week beginners course
, which restarts next week.  So if anyone reading this is sufficiently local and is interested in joining us, now's a pretty good time to start...

"Dance first.  Think later.  It's the natural order.
-Samuel Beckett

This seems like an interesting idea, if somehow terrifying.

G'wan. You know you want to.

Well, ok, possibly you don't. But it's only £5, and if you've never done anything similar then it's definitely an interesting experience.

When i picked out the class i tried to find one that was fun and relaxed rather than like formal dance lessons i remember as a child! I think i succeeded. I was really surprised how eclectic the type of people who go are, and most start off with no knowledge whatsoever. Also if you miss a week you can catch up, and if you don't like a particular step you just don't do it again. Anyway it will teach you to be real men and lead ;-) Elaine and i finally learnt to stop leading and take instruction...it has to be a first!!
If you do want to come next Wednesday and don't know that end of town then if you can all fit in my car i will give you a lift.

Anyway Morph, Beckett's quote should be Dance first, whilst counting/reciting. Think later. Then there will be natural order ;-)
