Yes, the Leipzig hotel thing got sorted. It's all ok now - yes, [livejournal.com profile] davefish is mostly dead during daylight hours, but there aren't any serious problems. :-)

We're very sorry. We didn't mean to kill your [livejournal.com profile] davefish. It just sort of happened.

I'm in Leipzig.

Now, you might ask why, if I'm in Leipzig, I'm wasting time posting to LJ. That would be because I really, really need to rant. Simple enough answer.

  • Left London with [livejournal.com profile] colfish and [livejournal.com profile] blooddoll3, got to Luton, queued for a stupid length of time before finally reaching check-in.
  • Got train from Berlin to Leipzig. Got delayed for quite some time outside Leipzig, due to a bomb scare(?) at Leipzig station...
  • Finally reached Leipzig to find that nobody had a map showing where our hotel was. Within walking distance of station, yes, but which direction? This was easy enough to resolve, though.
  • Reached hotel to find that they'd cancelled our booking, as we were late, and had just rented our rooms to someone else. Lost my sense of humour at this point.
  • Got taxi from hotel to other hotel, which they'd phoned and arranged alternative rooms (for all five nights) with.
  • ...checked into second hotel, to discover that they thought we were only staying for one night, then moving back into first hotel for the other four nights...?

The saga continues. But right now, beer takes priority.

Today may be a little bit hectic. Off to London tonight, off to Leipzig tomorrow.

This should be fun.

Books:

Greg Egan - Incandescence, May 2008

Terry Pratchett - Making Money, 24 Sept 2007

Warren Ellis - Crooked Little Vein

...and apparently Donna Tartt is currently writing her third novel.

Music:

Philip Glass - Appomattox, new opera (world premiere Oct 2007)

Theatre:

According to Saturday's Guardian, we can expect to see the latest David Hare play - The Vertical Hour - arrive in London next year...

Er, yes. I managed to lock myself out of the house this morning. Not ideal.

Ooops... )

I'm mostly skimming LJ at the moment, so apologies if I miss anything important. I am reading all comments, though - I'm also trying to catch up on replies to some very old ones...

Additionally, I'm trying to avoid 'friends only' posts unless there's a pretty good reason for 'em.

Normality has resumed. It's definitely a Monday.

Fortunately, I'm off to Leipzig on Thursday, which may help a little. Then again, it might not - there are plenty of good bands playing, but I'm still a little low on enthusiasm.

(Note to self: mead and absinthe are not appropriate substitutes for enthusiasm)

I suspect that I'll be in Morrisons Irish Bar at some point on Thursday night. May see some of you there?

Let's see how it goes...

Very tired. Which is entirely my own fault.

It's been an interesting weekend, but it hasn't actually achieved much. I still need to get organised in time for Leipzig...

Finally watched the last two episodes of Life on Mars.

That... was an interesting finish.

I like it.

Edit: Comments may contain spoilers.

Browns. Lunch?

Life's still pretty good. I'm just mentioning this because, well, normally I don't mention this.

Read back through five years of my LJ (something which I wouldn't exactly recommend...) and the "yes, life is good" aspect is not always terribly obvious. Probably because it doesn't exactly invite comment (unlike mashed potatoes) or supply useful information.

For those of you who are considering the October WGW... wander over to here and watch Crud's Reality video.

I'm intending to enjoy their set. :)

Right. Application for new and shiny job submitted. Let's see how it goes...

Warren Ellis + Lara Croft

Interesting combination.

Given that Mr Ellis wrote the intro for White Wolf's pulp game Adventure (and also revamped Elsa Bloodstone into the gun-toting adventuress we know and love from Nextwave, this could be good...

Lunch with [livejournal.com profile] pope_ant and [livejournal.com profile] pink_mouse. A long and positive conversation with the boss. A short and productive conference call.

I appear to have a job for a little longer than expected. I'm also applying for a different job tomorrow, as I've found out about it at the very last minute. This could be fun.

It's turning into a strange week. So far it's been purely work and Stuff - with luck, tonight might actually be a free evening so that I can catch up on tidying the house.

My life is so rock'n'roll. :)

...In The Nursery(??, 25th, Völkerschlachtdenkmal), Ataraxia (16:00, 26th, Schauspielhaus), Rotersand (20:10, 25th, Agra), In Strict Confidence (18.45, 25th, Werk II), Subway to Sally (23:20, 28th, Agra), The Last Days of Jesus, Merlons Lichter...

...Grendel, The Cruxshadows,

This should be fun. Allegedly the Cruxshadows play the Agra at 1AM. Er, and the Levellers are just below Subway to Sally on the Monday night line-up. Some would say that this is merely as it should be. They obviously need more bagpipes... :)
