With a subject line like that, I'm sure some of you already know that this is going to be a FreakAngels post. After all, I know that some of you already read it.
I also know that some of you don't do webcomics, or don't get on with Warren Ellis's stuff, or simply don't like the style/tone/language of this particular piece (it's very pretty but quite slow paced, except when it's suddenly quite violent. There's some bad language, too).
However, it occurred to me that I haven't rambled about it for a while, and there are almost certainly some of you who are 'neither of the above' and might actually quite like it. If so, please do give it a try - the link above goes to the first page of the first episode.
FreakAngels is published weekly, at noon (GMT) each Friday. You get six pages a week, although there are occasional skip weeks. It's intended to run for a long time, and it's being collected in print by Avatar Press (the first collection's due in a week or five).
In that sense, it's something of a publishing experiment - a paper-based comic company backing a creator-owned webcomic project by two people who are already comics professionals, in the hope that it'll sell paper copies as well and will eventually turn into something that's financially viable.

From the New York Times - Aaron Sorkin's written an Op-Ed piece in the form of a conversation between Barack Obama and Jed Bartlet.
Very nicely done.

(no subject)
Sep. 18th, 2008 07:35 pmJust a little bit tired. On the plus side:
- Have contacted a couple of driving instructors, will hopefully be able to pick which one I'm using some time tomorrow.
- The builders are here on Monday, to quote for the next round of work on the house.
- ...and on Thursday we get into the detailed plans for the kitchen extension.
Maximum safe dosage
Sep. 14th, 2008 06:52 pmI have a nasty habit of watching DVDs in blocks - 2-4 episodes of something at a single sitting. Depending on the show, this may have... side effects...
Too much West Wing (4 episodes or more) definitely warps my speech patterns and sense of humour for a little while. But it's remarkably easy to watch...
More than two episodes of Deadwood and it starts to get to me. Somehow. Or maybe that's just the accompanying whisky...
Two episodes of Mad Men seems to be about as much as I can watch at once.
And I've never been able to watch more than a single episode of Six Feet Under at a time. It's just too bleak - mostly due to the way it's filmed, I think.
I've just started watching season one of Dexter. I think I could happily watch quite a lot of this in a single night. I'm not entirely sure what that would do to my brain, though...

Home improvements
Sep. 14th, 2008 03:42 pmThe tricky bit about decorating this house - as opposed to the awkward, expensive and time-consuming bits - is working out what I want the finished room to look like.

Valuable advice

..is pretty good.
Ok, bits of it aren't, but they're not things I have any influence over - family health issues and the like - so there's not much point getting stressed over them. You do what you can, but there's a limit.
On the other hand, the rest of it's not bad at all. I have good friends, a (rapidly) improving house and various other things to be cheerful about. :)
(I can't dance properly terribly well, or so it seems, but I'm having a certain amount of fun trying, so that's ok...)

Invocation
Sep. 12th, 2008 05:55 pmDo I want to do London / Invocation next weekend? Possibly with a bit of random wandering around London beforehand.
I think the answer is yes, but I'm also a little scatterbrained and unsure whether or not I've already booked myself up for something else. I don't think I have, but...
I'd half-intended to make it to the last Vagabonds, but didn't in the end - and it's about time I made it back to a few more goth nights. So, is anyone else planning to be there...?

There's evidently no hope for me...
Sep. 7th, 2008 12:39 amFirst Scouting For Girls, now Nerina Pallot - when did this stuff start worming into my head...?!
Should I just burn my goth card now, hmm?
...well, evidently I shouldn't, as I've just come back from an Attrition gig which I rather enjoyed (support band Novus UK, who I hadn't seen before, were - unsurprisingly - a little reminiscent of Faithful Dawn. This is no bad thing...). I guess I'm just in an upbeat fluff mood right now...
Oh, and Attrition's side-project Imprint covered Love Will Tear Us Apart - not actually sure whether I liked it or not, which must actually be a vote of confidence given how much I like the original. Although I now need to listen to lots of Joy Division, just to counterbalance the cover and fluff... :)
