May. 19th, 2007 08:53 amLife's still pretty good. I'm just mentioning this because, well, normally I don't mention this.
Read back through five years of my LJ (something which I wouldn't exactly recommend...) and the "yes, life is good" aspect is not always terribly obvious. Probably because it doesn't exactly invite comment (unlike mashed potatoes) or supply useful information.

May. 17th, 2007 08:36 pmWarren Ellis + Lara Croft
Interesting combination.
Given that Mr Ellis wrote the intro for White Wolf's pulp game Adventure (and also revamped Elsa Bloodstone into the gun-toting adventuress we know and love from Nextwave, this could be good...

Pretty good day.
May. 17th, 2007 07:04 pmLunch with
pope_ant and
pink_mouse. A long and positive conversation with the boss. A short and productive conference call.
I appear to have a job for a little longer than expected. I'm also applying for a different job tomorrow, as I've found out about it at the very last minute. This could be fun.

So, Leipzig...
May. 15th, 2007 09:24 pm...In The Nursery(??, 25th, Völkerschlachtdenkmal), Ataraxia (16:00, 26th, Schauspielhaus), Rotersand (20:10, 25th, Agra), In Strict Confidence (18.45, 25th, Werk II), Subway to Sally (23:20, 28th, Agra), The Last Days of Jesus, Merlons Lichter...
...Grendel, The Cruxshadows,
This should be fun. Allegedly the Cruxshadows play the Agra at 1AM. Er, and the Levellers are just below Subway to Sally on the Monday night line-up. Some would say that this is merely as it should be. They obviously need more bagpipes... :)

Food, glorious food...
May. 14th, 2007 11:07 pmToday featured some unexpected cookery. Not exactly challenging stuff - a purchased pie, some greens, some mash - but quite nice. Now, if I could just get the timings right (and remember to warm the plates beforehand)...
Spinning out of this, a couple of questions for the readership -
1) What's the perfect mashed potato? What, in your opinion, needs to be added to make it a little bit special?
2) Which cookbooks are utterly wonderful things that need to be purchased?

May. 14th, 2007 06:24 pmThe weekend was quite fun and involved a trip to see my family. It also involved a trip to Southampton Art Gallery, which was hosting the Japan: A Floating world in print exhibition at the time.

May. 10th, 2007 12:29 am"Tension, apprehension,
And dissension have begun."
I really need to update my 2007 book listing - I'm not reading as much as usual this year, but there are a good three or four that aren't yet listed in that post. As some of you might guess from the quotation above, The Demolished Man is one of them.
