It's going to be a very busy week. Out tonight (since I've misplaced the roleplayers), visiting craftsmen and small children on Wednesday, getting the sink fixed on Thursday...

...and I haven't a clue what I'm doing with Bank Holiday Weekend, but I'm sure I'll think of something. It may have to involve Hellboy II, a trip to somewhere green and pleasant, or both. Possibly gardening. Or visiting someone else's gardens.

The weather will probably be ghastly, but if it isn't there's a certain attraction to just getting on a train and going somewhere picturesque for a bit. And no, I don't mean Bradford - not this year!

BBC - Bornean Clouded Leopard caught on camera

I'm not sure I'd even been paying attention when they decided that this was actually a different species. Ah well...

Yes, I'm bored this evening. How can you tell?

...has been pretty good.

Friday involved celebrations and sparkly things - er, and a certain amount of beer. The rest of the weekend has mostly involved StarbucksBristol, as I wandered down to visit [profile] aldric, [personal profile] lurkingcat and [personal profile] ankaret.  There may have been conversations about gardening. There were definitely cats. There was a certain amount of shopping involved.

Not a bad way to spend the weekend - many thanks to all concerned!

Sleep. Now.

I was going to write stuff, but suddenly sleep seems like a much better idea. Maybe tomorrow, then.

Food meme, from [personal profile] graylion  - let's face it, there's no way I'd miss out on this one...

The Omnivore's Hundred is a list of foods the gastronomic Andrew Wheeler thinks everyone should try at least once in their lives.

The rules of the meme: bold those you have tried, strikethrough those you wouldn't eat on a bet.

2a) Italicize any item you'll never eat again.
2b) Asterisk any items you'd be interested in trying but have not yet.

I'm surprised at some of the things that aren't on the list. What, no brains? No pig's trotters? No squirrels,  spleens, whelks, chicken paws, pickled samphire or gull's eggs? :-)

Right then. I figure everyone who's going to comment on the Johari Window probably has done, so I'm going to ramble about it a little. After thirteen votes, the general verdict is that I'm friendly, calm, knowledgeable, logical, trustworthy and dependable. Hmm.
  • Nobody thinks I'm spontaneous. Which, I guess, is fair enough - I think I am, but not when other people are involved. If I've got company, I plan stuff. If it's just me, I make it up as I go along. If it all goes wrong and it's just me, I can always find alternatives and it's not going to stress me - a little more care and attention is called for when others are involved, though.
  • Nobody thinks I'm especially happy, mature, loving, idealistic or sentimental. Woe is me. Nobody thinks I'm religious, either - which I'd disagree with - but then I don't tend to talk about faith on LJ much...
  • Only one person thinks I'm proud. That'd be someone who knows me pretty well, and it's an entirely fair comment - I am. Evidently it doesn't show much (although I bet you'd get different answers from anyone who's ever worked with me).
  • I wonder if I'd get the same reaction on 'stubborn' (which wasn't one of the options) - I don't know whether I come across as stubborn until someone actually runs into it. I suspect that I don't, most of the time.  Possibly it needs a warning sign.
  • One person stated that I'm extroverted, as opposed to several votes for introverted and quiet. I wonder how much I've changed over the years - the extrovert vote came from [profile] evilruss, who's known me since 1990 but hasn't seen me much in recent years. Back in the early 90s, I'd say it was a label that definitely fitted - now, possibly not so much.
Hmm. I'll throw this one open to the floor. Now that the results are in, do they look a bit like a [personal profile] mrph?

Right then. Pub. Whitefriars. Friday night.

Who's going to be there? :)

Jekka's Herb Farm is having its end of season open days at the end of this month - Fri Aug 29th - Sun Aug 31st (10am-4pm each day).

Free admission on Fri, £2 on Sat and Sun. It sounds interesting (at least to me, although I'm not likely to be in Bristol at that point) and there will be an end of season plant sale, apparently - and I've got an electronic voucher for discounts on French Tarragon plants, if anyone wants some.

Not a bad day, so far. I have herbs. Well, ok, more herbs.
Other than that, today has mostly involved work, clearing my garden and plotting with the guy who's refurbishing my bathroom. Things are taking shape..

You seem to have fallen through a tiny crack in my scoring system. Stand by. I'm working on it.

Well, that was certainly a very Bonker-er-Bonekickers end to the season. Quite enjoyed it, though.

Probably not enough to buy it on DVD, but certainly enough to watch season two, if it happens...

Steven Moffat does it again - 'Blink' gets a Hugo

It's quite nice to see that Paul Cornell's Human Nature / The Family of Blood got nominated too (I'm not remotely surprised that it did, either...) - and it's good to see that Catherine Treganna's Torchwood episode, Captain Jack Harkness (IMHO the only season one Torchwood episode that really worked), also got a nomination.

Hmm. That was fun. I don't think I did anything too awful while cheerfully intoxicated, and my memory of events (as always) appears to be fairly clear....

Photos and videos ("Ring Road - the musical!") will be online in the next few days. :P

Today has featured pimms, small children, moose hugs, pimms, barbecued animal, ice cubes, mushrooms, pimms, discussions about the correct use of language, the chili challenge, songs about the Coventry ring road, daddy monkey's escape bid and many other things besides...

It's been Elaine's birthday and there was a Party. With much silliness.

Time for sleep now.

(from Sherman Alexie, via Neil Gaiman's blog)
"Do you know why Indian rain dances always worked? Because the Indians would keep dancing until it rained."

I quite like that one. Possibly because you can interpret it in a few different ways...

Good morning, world. It's going to be a damn fine day.

...the BBC's just reported that Birmingham New Street station is on fire and being evacuated...?!

Are you tired of hearing about gardening yet? :)

No, I haven't been doing any more of it. But I think I need to be. This weekend is [profile] jambon_gris and Elaine's party, next weekend I'm in Bristol, the weekend after that is the bank holiday...

...and if I don't get my act together and get some raised beds put in place, I'm not going to be planting the turnips or kohlrabi that really do need to be planted quite soon...

I see some busy week nights ahead of me. Now, where did I put my trusty spade...? :)

...just because this bit of news surprised me and I feel the need to share. A while back, Marvel Comics handed over their UK operations to Panini.

I wasn't expecting anything too interesting to come from this, but as well as republishing Marvel's most popular superhero comics for sale at UK newsagents, Panini have been printing collected editions of some of the more interesting Marvel UK comics - things that Marvel themselves have never managed to reprint in collections...

So far, we've had two volumes of early Captain Britain stories (with a third one to follow) and two volumes of Death's Head. Not a bad start - and a very sensible start, if you're looking to gauge interest...

They've just announced their next collection - Dragon's Claws.

I may be the only person who remembers this one. Ten issues of dystopian adventure in the grim 82nd century. The seas have dried, the land is desert and Blackpool's a no-go zone inhabited by gothic psychopaths...

It's not an amazing comic - it definitely had its flaws - but it was good fun and it'll be good to see it back in print.

Now, if they'll just follow that up by reprinting the first run of The Knights of Pendragon, then I'll be really happy... :)
