Leipzig: Saturday
Jun. 5th, 2004 08:10 pmThis is where it all starts to get a little bit blurred. Partly because it's been a week now, mostly because there wasn't much sleep, there was some alcohol and there were a lot of bands...
But anyway.
I got up. There was breakfast. There was a slightly less perky
davefish, who'd been partying at the Moritzbastei until ungodly o'clock in the morning, as well as brief glimpses of
sexbat and
caveynik, among others. By Saturday the hotel was trying to divide the dodgy goths from the other breakfast-goers, so we got herded into the back room. The one with the huge round tables. So that was ok.
The purple hippo was still on MTV. It was still disturbing.
Then it was off to the Sixtina, with Karen and
davefish, to investigate the absinthe breakfasts. The plan was to meet
ninshubur there... but we got there first, seating was hard to come by, and the rest of the mob decided that Morrisons would be a bit more sensible. I can't blame them. Still, we felt it was worth staying - especially once we ran into Celine and
lsur. So we ordered absinthe, did the usual thing with the sugar cubes and matches (...despite two varieties stubbornly refusing to light) and indulged. Despite last year's warning, someone ended up with a glass of the Mata Hari. For whatever reason, it didn't seem quite so bad this year...
Then we got drawn in by the Agra's strange gravitational pull, and shopping ensued. Much shopping. I think we eventually ran into
dave_exile, and then we all headed off in different directions. I nipped back to the hotel to drop off my purchases, noted that there was no way I'd make it to see Persephone, and decided to wander out to the Parkbuhne stage with
davefish.
First up were Diva Destruction. I'm not quite sure who's in the band now (aside from Debra), but they still put on a decent show. Having said that, I still feel her stage presence is a bit stilted at times. Although to judge by the crowd's reaction, I'm definitely in the minority on this. By the end of their set we were happy, bouncy and craving food...
This was when I really started to appreciate
davefish's language skills. Many people could go up to the food stall, order half a roast chicken and end up with a perplexed look and someone behind the counter saying "ah... you are English? What was it you wanted?". But only
davefish could walk up, order half a roast chicked and receive a bun full of salami instead. That takes real talent.
Then we ran into some unexpected Camgoths, and I managed to lose the
davefish in the crowd during Clan of Xymox. Although I managed to find
bitbat and Roger, so I guess that's a fair trade. Xymox were, as ever, very professional - and started the set with a bit more energy than usual. I stayed for most of it (including some very nice renditions of A Day, I Want You Now (probably my favourite song from their recent albums...) and Jasmine and Rose) before catching a taxi back to the hotel with
bitbat and Roger.
And, once again, the evening ended with some very civilised drinks at the hotel bar. Even if I had a few problems ordering them (I'm sure I said 'drei'!). This was also the point when I discovered that the hotel bar served Cyanar, Unicum and Becherovka... :)
That was the last of my early(ish) nights. I hadn't realised at the time, but the Moritzbastei was about to swallow the rest of my weekend. Ooops.

Date: 2004-06-06 03:56 pm (UTC)Note sure whether it was an official promo or not - a while (maybe 2 years) ago I just asked them to send me the latest stuff they had, which was:
Tiny Monsters
Extraordinary2
Turn
By The Way, Lady
Far Away From Everything
Radioactive
Prior to that I have the two 3-track promos, Glass-Made Saviour/Sightseeing In Your Mind/Cosmic Babes, and Selected Sunrises/A Cosy Abyss/Insides Out.
As for the live thing, I think they're very possibly insane ;-)
