This is where it all starts to get a little bit blurred. Partly because it's been a week now, mostly because there wasn't much sleep, there was some alcohol and there were a lot of bands...

But anyway.

I got up. There was breakfast. There was a slightly less perky [livejournal.com profile] davefish, who'd been partying at the Moritzbastei until ungodly o'clock in the morning, as well as brief glimpses of [livejournal.com profile] sexbat and [livejournal.com profile] caveynik, among others. By Saturday the hotel was trying to divide the dodgy goths from the other breakfast-goers, so we got herded into the back room. The one with the huge round tables. So that was ok.

The purple hippo was still on MTV. It was still disturbing.

Then it was off to the Sixtina, with Karen and [livejournal.com profile] davefish, to investigate the absinthe breakfasts. The plan was to meet [livejournal.com profile] ninshubur there... but we got there first, seating was hard to come by, and the rest of the mob decided that Morrisons would be a bit more sensible. I can't blame them. Still, we felt it was worth staying - especially once we ran into Celine and [livejournal.com profile] lsur. So we ordered absinthe, did the usual thing with the sugar cubes and matches (...despite two varieties stubbornly refusing to light) and indulged. Despite last year's warning, someone ended up with a glass of the Mata Hari. For whatever reason, it didn't seem quite so bad this year...

Then we got drawn in by the Agra's strange gravitational pull, and shopping ensued. Much shopping. I think we eventually ran into [livejournal.com profile] dave_exile, and then we all headed off in different directions. I nipped back to the hotel to drop off my purchases, noted that there was no way I'd make it to see Persephone, and decided to wander out to the Parkbuhne stage with [livejournal.com profile] davefish.

First up were Diva Destruction. I'm not quite sure who's in the band now (aside from Debra), but they still put on a decent show. Having said that, I still feel her stage presence is a bit stilted at times. Although to judge by the crowd's reaction, I'm definitely in the minority on this. By the end of their set we were happy, bouncy and craving food...

This was when I really started to appreciate [livejournal.com profile] davefish's language skills. Many people could go up to the food stall, order half a roast chicken and end up with a perplexed look and someone behind the counter saying "ah... you are English? What was it you wanted?". But only [livejournal.com profile] davefish could walk up, order half a roast chicked and receive a bun full of salami instead. That takes real talent.

Then we ran into some unexpected Camgoths, and I managed to lose the [livejournal.com profile] davefish in the crowd during Clan of Xymox. Although I managed to find [livejournal.com profile] bitbat and Roger, so I guess that's a fair trade. Xymox were, as ever, very professional - and started the set with a bit more energy than usual. I stayed for most of it (including some very nice renditions of A Day, I Want You Now (probably my favourite song from their recent albums...) and Jasmine and Rose) before catching a taxi back to the hotel with [livejournal.com profile] bitbat and Roger.

And, once again, the evening ended with some very civilised drinks at the hotel bar. Even if I had a few problems ordering them (I'm sure I said 'drei'!). This was also the point when I discovered that the hotel bar served Cyanar, Unicum and Becherovka... :)

That was the last of my early(ish) nights. I hadn't realised at the time, but the Moritzbastei was about to swallow the rest of my weekend. Ooops.

Did you see any good new bands that you could recommend...we are always on the look out for the next big thing to tout at Lowlife!

:o)

Not many, actually... probably because I didn't see nearly as many bands as in previous years. I must be getting old. Or distracted. Or something.

Dust Heaven were very good though, as were New Days Delay. Mind you, the former don't have anything out on CD yet and the latter don't have anything that reflects their current sound (or really does them justice) out...

The best band I didn't see seems to be Eisbrecher (although Spiritual Front seem to have been pretty good, too... but is Lowlife looking for neo-folk? :). They've got a track on the festival sampler CD, and it sounds rather nice. I'm told some of their other stuff is a bit less polished, but...

Missed something a bit special there...

Oh, I don't know... I think tracks like Tiny Monsters and Extraordinary2 manage pretty well... the album is definitely keenly awaited though.

Probably - I saw them last time they played there, at Haus Auensee (seated, in the morning) and they were great. But Saturday just wasn't good for getting things done, and I have too many bad memories of the Schauspielhaus being packed...

Was that the latest promo, btw?

...I guess Tiny Monster is probably the closest they've come, yes. I dunno. Much as I like it, it still (IMHO) doesn't seem to capture the... whatever it is... that they've got live.

Note sure whether it was an official promo or not - a while (maybe 2 years) ago I just asked them to send me the latest stuff they had, which was:

Tiny Monsters
Extraordinary2
Turn
By The Way, Lady
Far Away From Everything
Radioactive

Prior to that I have the two 3-track promos, Glass-Made Saviour/Sightseeing In Your Mind/Cosmic Babes, and Selected Sunrises/A Cosy Abyss/Insides Out.

As for the live thing, I think they're very possibly insane ;-)
