Ok, so I still haven't read the books.

However, I've just watched the 15 minute HBO preview - the first part of episode one. Mmm. Yes.

I may have to pay attention to this. :)

Beginning to read Game of Thrones, precisely. So far, so good. I did cool down a bit after the first sixty or so pages, but it's still good. Looking forward to the series. The author is here in livejournal as grrm but of course, understandably, mostly promotes his stuff.

You should read the books! They're good for long plane journeys.

What with that and Boardwalk Empire, I am greatly annoyed at not having Sky Atlantic.

Yes, but not annoyed enough to go to all the hassle of ditching Virgin (broadband, landline and cable, yes they own me) and subscribing to Sky - both series would probably be over by the time the changeover was complete.

Yes, that's pretty much exactly where I am too - apart from their very variable customer service, I don't actually have any complaints about Virgin, and as you say, both series would probably have finished by the time the switch was made.
