Leverage

Finished watching season #1 of Leverage last night. Definitely hooked now.

With a couple of exceptions, it's a season that steadily improves as it goes. Or, at least, most of my favourites are in the last batch of episodes - The Juror #6 Job, The Bank Shot Job, The Twelve Step Job...

...and The First David Job. Which has to be my favourite of the whole bunch. Right from the first scene, it's clear that this one's not going quite to plan. And that it's personal.

The season finale ('The Second David Job') is a great, classic con - and equally personal. But it's not as dark... and the last third(?) of 'The First David Job' is absolutely great stuff...

Hmmm. I'm very fond of Hustle. D'ya think I would therefore enjoy Leverage?

Same basic concept (Hustle was the inspiration), different methods. Hustle is very British, Leverage very American and typically OTT at times, especially in regards of the tech Hardison (the hacker) is using. If you can get over that, Leverage is really enjoyable. It takes a while to get going but then it usually works really well and the main actors/characters bounce off each other wonderfully.
Each season has a vague meta plot running through it but it doesn't matter much if you miss the occasional episode.

I'd argee with most of karohemd's comments. It takes in the fantasy land that most US TV shows inhabit where it's all about the characters and less about the plot. Every week there is a murder/con/crime scene that neatly resolves itself allowing the characters to do all kinds of improbable actions because it's about glamour and entertainment.
