It feels as if I haven't actually done much in the way of goth - except Whitby - for Quite Some Time.

So... now planning to change that a little.

Hopefully going to the Birmingham Cruxshadows gig, the November Vagabonds and - possibly - back to Leipzig WGT next year.

I'm guessing that some of you are making similar plans - so, who's going to be where? :)

There's a Birmingham Cruxshadows gig?

What he said. Come to the gig. You know it makes sense. It's even on a Friday night... :)

There is an event at the Fleece in Bristol that I'm thinking of attending in March. Ruth from Bath mentioned it to me. I have no idea if it'll be any good, but I have to leave the house at some point...

March is a little way off... I'm hoping to leave the house a few times before I get there. :) What's the event, btw?

This:

Sounds more electro and metal than goth, tbh, but it'd be nice to meet up with Ruth the pink again.

Probably going to Whitby in Spring and, shock horror, might have some Swarf dates in the new year as we have new stuff to show off.

Probably not doing next WGW, but still a bit undecided. The last few have been odd for a whole bunch of reasons (still fun, though), and it's starting to feel more like habit than relaxation...

Swarf gigs, though... might have to attend a couple of them. :)

There's ALF in Wolverhampton on the 28th of this month. I won't be there, but the Matt/Niall/Steve/Nevla line up is definitely worth a look. :-)

I won't make that one - probably in London, as noted below, but it would be good to see ALF again and I'm curious about the line up...

Festivals, you can probably count me in. If its silly and european, probably doubly so !

Am in Paris on the 4th of dec, so thats a no and i'm not that keen on the pineapppleheaded monkeyboy anyway.

Undecided on the last weekend of the month. Vags may happen as i've not been in a while.

Paris? Not a bad place to be. Beats Birmingham. :)

I'm definitely leaning towards Vags, but we'll see how it goes. Haven't been for a year, and haven't really been out anywhere else goth-y in London in that time, either...

The Paris trip is a cheapy one with some of the London Sluts. Eurostar offer of £60 return. Dive hotel for 3 nights for 150/2. Bargain fun.

It'll be Vags of Heresy 'n' Heels Christmas special i'd guess. They are the two things showing on my radar atm.

Heresy'n'Heels didn't really hit my radar - I just don't 'get' burlesque, I think.

The Sluts trip sounds fun, mind you. :)

Its a good excuse to dress up lavisly and the best ones have retro music and dancing afterwards. I wouldn't have started Lindy, but for girls wanting to dance with me and not knowing how.

I'm all for dressing up lavishly and retro music - and I think you can guess my views on dancing (I started for similar reasons - including two black tie events where I had the chance to dance, and wanted to dance, but was all left feet...).

...it's just the actual burlesque thing that doesn't grab me. I'm hoping that stuff like Birmingham's new 'Hot Ginger' will remedy this by offering one without the other. :)

Pretty ladies taking thier clothes off with fun, humour, style and music doesn't grab you....Hmmm...There is boylesque ???

Date: 2009-11-12 05:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrph.livejournal.com
I'm all in favour of pretty ladies getting stylishly undressed, yes. But preferably in a different venue and a very different context - where I'm not just there because I bought a ticket, and there's rather more scope for audience interaction.

I'm a little uneasy about burlesque. I like the style, the music and the vaudeville elements - I'm less comfortable walking into a club and paying to see someone take (most of) her clothes off. And, yes, the former aspect is the thing that makes it work (and fun) - but bits of my brain tend to snag on the latter. YMMV, of course - I know lots of people who *do* enjoy watching (and/or performing in) burlesque, and this is a purely personal twitchiness...

*Laugh*

Yeah, i'm all up for that !

Hmmm...Its a common quirkiness. Would free burlesque be any better though ???

From: [identity profile] mrph.livejournal.com
Hmm. Possibly. The cash-for-tassels bit is certainly a factor in my head.

Suspect there's more to it than that, though. Possibly I need to see some free burlesques to work out what, mind you...

Go on, twist my arm for Leipzig.

A weekend of friv, funolity and bagpipes. What's not to like?

D'oh. Looks like there's a general "yep, Leipzig..." buzz doing the rounds, though.

This may require plotting.

I've already got my cottage booked for April Whitby so I'll be there come hell or high water :-)

Date: 2009-11-11 06:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrph.livejournal.com
I'm still not sure about April - not currently planning to be there, but this may change depending on bands/life. I think I'm just a bit worn down by the birthday=Whitby thing, but there's also an aspect of... well... getting tired of the same stuff, I guess.

I had a great WGW this time (mostly) - and a lot of that was because I was in a very chilled house. On the other hand, I'm really not up for the 'get stupid drunk and party 'til dawn' thing, not least because I'm too old and frail these days... :)

...and I don't have the same sort of single cohesive mob of friends that I used to socialise with at Whitby. I still know lots of people, including good friends who I look forward to seeing, but they're a bit more scattered now.

Hmm.
