Somewhen in the next two weeks, I'm going to attempt to grow kohlrabi and turnips.

This may go horribly wrong. Alternatively, I may end up trying to offload spare vegetables on friends... :-)

First, though, I need to contruct a couple of raised beds at the end of the garden. This should be fun.

(I'm half-watching the Hungarian grand prix. It's failing to hold my attention...)

I think you're being quite optimistic thinking that a turnip will mature in two weeks. Unless it's a genetically engineered, fast-growing, man-eating variety.

Which would also be interesting. :-)

But no, am planting in a couple of weeks. Should be ready by end of Sept, start of Oct. Turnips are always best when small...

Hurray. I have kohlrabi too, and also beetroot and potatoes, and the strawberries are plodding along. After some of the potatoes have come out I'm going to put some parsnips down to get lovely and sweet over the winter frosts :D if the winter is actually cold this year...

I could do you a swap potatoes or beetroot for turnips later in the year, if you happen to be in Cambridge/I happen to be in Coventry! Beetroot is happening hopefully around Sept., potatoes are sort of a rolling crop.

Link-a-bord are quite easy for raised beds (and not too expensive). Plastic but could easily be cladded to cover em.
