Today hasn't exactly been eventful, but it's certainly been busy.

Lunch in Browns while the Godiva Carnival got underway. Bagpipes, dhols and people trying to pinch our seats (plus another opportunity to confuse poor [profile] pope_ant). It's all a little surreal, even if I should be used to it after this many years in Coventry...

This was followed by a relatively brief trip to the Godival Festival with [personal profile] keris, [profile] colfish and [profile] blooddoll3. Mostly, we got rained on. But there were apple whips and pies (as well as Rob handing out flyers...), so it wasn't such a bad way to spend an hour or two.

Then back to [personal profile] keris and [profile] davefish's place for Doctor Who. Which was... not nearly as bad as I expected from RTD. Probably the best two-parter he's written for the series. I'll let you decide whether or not this is damning with faint praise. :)

A pretty good swansong from him, yes (or does he hand over the reins the year after next?)

Not sure - was discussing this with [livejournal.com profile] mrbear - he's still writing the specials, but I'm not sure he's actually holding the reins for 'em...

SPOILERS!

It was not bad! How could one not treasure Davros and Sarah Jane re-uniting? And the Tardis towing the Earth...

Who? I hated it.

But, to be fair, this is the first grand finale I've seen of the new series. Maybe you've just developed calluses on the relevant portions of your brain.

End of season 1 was worst, but that might have been partly because of the soul crushing let down, we didn't expect it, and the set up episode seemed so awesome at the time. From then on, we were ready for the end of season horrors that awaited us.

End of season 2 wasn't half as bad. OK, it wasn't good, but was probably the best season ender of the lot. It stands as the only one not solved by someone Randomly Becoming Uber / All Powerful and Fixing Everything.

End of season 3 was a return to form of the season one ending, but this time we were ready for it. Some of the Crapness of the way it ended leaked out into the first part, letting us steel ourselves. The third to end episode kinda sets it up, and is worth watching, just to see Derick Jacobi being a Godly Actor.

End of season 4? I've hit the "Meh" stage. It wasn't *quite* as bad as I feared, but still.... RTD was very much on the "MOAR EPIIIIC!!!!!!!!" kick, because what could be more epic than the entire multiverse at stake.

It was quite possibly one of the crappiest hours of TV I've ever seen. Someone forgot the plot, but they sure didn't forget to fill it with magic buttons that get pressed everytime gets into a corner. The McCoy era is beginning to look appealing after this shit!
