Well, that was dark...

Between them, Catherine Tate, Bernard Cribbins and Joseph Long really made their scenes work. Billie Piper... well, she improved a bit as it went on, but her acting in the first few Rose scenes just seemed... clumsy, I guess. Maybe it's just me.

Poor Donna. Her future's not looking so bright, is it? But, oddly, I do actually trust RTD to write a halfway decent exit for her.

Not too impressed by the visuals for the beetle. Was expecting something a little more alien and/or creepier.

I didn't actually miss the Doctor much, which probably proved it worked.

Too Much Wolf, btw.

As for the stars going out... I'm not going to immediately ridicule the physics/timings. I'll save my ridicule  for  the episode when they revisit it,  just in case they do have an explanation... :)

Contractual obligation - US series used to do this when they'd run out of money/scripts - let's do the old Jimmy Stewart thing. Tired and crap - this is how low Doctor Who's gone. Even John Nathan Turner didn't resort to using naff tricks like this!

Although it's worrying when you prefer it without the Doctor.
