Homeland Security Department tells Red Cross to stay out of New Orleans
I can see the logic - but the logic is at least partly based on the assumption that everyone who needs help would be evacuated. And that doesn't seem to be the case, does it?

Date: 2005-09-04 10:10 am (UTC)I was watching news 24, and was amazed at two bits,
1. people buying more weapons at Batton Rouge, when asked why WatMart was doing good business, one lady annouced that the people from New Orleans were arriving with nothing, and she had to protect her stuff.
The more I get to know Americans the less I understand them.
2. There was one of Jesse Jackon's reps being interviewed, and when asked what had they done as far a collecting clothes etc., he just looked alittle stunned. I have a feeling apart from holding a rally it never dawned on them that they should be actually doing something.
I think everyone has been a wee been shocked at it all.

I was horror struck when I realised one of my friends who is on gothgardening lives in Mobil. Fortunately she was on holiday when it happened, but the poor mite does not know if she still has a house left.
