Ariel Sharon's just gone up in my estimation.

Speaking about the soldiers who are currently working to dismantle Israeli settlements in the Gaza strip:

"Don't attack the men and women in uniform," he said. "Don't accuse them. Don't make it harder for them, don't harm them. Attack me. I am responsible for this."

Well said. And hopefully not tempting fate - much as I dislike the man and some of his policies, we've already had too many Israeli politicians assassinated.

Well the world would be a better place if Sharon was dead, and being attacked by Jewish right-wingers would avoid the issue of repercussions...

Sharon, precisely because of his politics, is probably the only person who could pull this off. At this point I don't care about his motives. If he's killed now, people are going to die, one way or another. More people, I think, but hell if I know.

Why don't people realize it when their arguments sound exactly like their enemies' arguments? How do people who think they're followers of a merciful deity end up killing? The things I've been hearing about the settlers make me want to cry. These people are my co-religionists?

Perhaps people everywhere default to xenophobia and possessive anger.
