Statement of intent
May. 11th, 2005 05:52 pmI'm planning to be at C12. Wherever it may be.
If it turns into a complete C7-style mess I reserve the right to change my mind - but barring that, I'll be there.

Date: 2005-05-11 08:27 pm (UTC)While I could happily live without ever going to Florida and would much prefer to go to New Orleans or Vancouver, I have a lot of faith in Rafe, Angelsil & One Bob's ability to put together an event, their bid is much more geared to the net.goth gathering than goth music festival side of the equation, which is what I go to Convergencefor.
Vancouver would be cool, but it's been on the west coast 2 of the last 3 years which means a lot of people won't show up.
The chair of the New Orleans bid was part of the San Diego bid, which was the least successful Convergence so far, except for the clusterfucks that were New York and San Francisco, and Heather Spear (C1 & C5) isn't willing to associate her name with the bid, although she is "advising" him.
Tampa is only about half a days drive from NOLA, so going to Tampa for CXII and spending a couple of days in New Orleans is entirely viable.

Date: 2005-05-11 10:45 pm (UTC)Of course, my other niece is getting married in 2006, so the US trip will have to be for that and not for anything else. Family comes first.
Personally, I don't think it's too good a sign if Heather isn't willing to put her name on the NOLA bid.
Speaking of Convergence in San Diego
Date: 2005-05-12 04:48 pm (UTC)Was it just timing or was it actually badly organised? I'm afraid I haven't been paying attention.
Good point about the Tampa bid though.

Date: 2005-05-25 06:29 pm (UTC)San Diego has nothing going for it.
It's on the opposite side of the country to pretty much everybody I know.
I think it was to close to C9 for a lot of east coasters to justify another trip out west.
It's on Whitby weekend so none of the British contingent were likely to go.
So all of those added up & piled on top of each other and convinced everybody to not go.

Date: 2005-05-25 05:29 pm (UTC)I'm a little concerned that, with both New Orleans and Las Vegas, the draw of a 'cool' city seems to obscure every other aspect of the bid for too many people. Still, that's democracy for ya...

New York proved that in spades - the only reason there wasn't a clusterfuck event there prior to & is that there were 2 people submitting bids & splitting the vote every year.
People are stupid - what are you going to do?
Me, I've decided I'm putting in a bid for C13 - my birthday party at my house on the July 2nd weekend - I get a larger contingent of old school net.goths than C11 did & I guarantee that the event is all about the people.

The legal options are limited.

Hmm. Before I cast my vote, I want to know just how much beer we can fit in your fridge... :)

Thank you for pointing that out early enough that I can be sure to address it.

Date: 2005-05-25 10:05 pm (UTC)We're hoping to have something in place on the website so that people can do it themselves after this year. *knocks wood**crossses fingers**makes the sign against the evil eye*
Although hopefully I'll be at this one and it'll get noted then, anyway (comments on the community haven't been terribly reassuring about this, though)
That's supposed to be the purpose of the pre-vote ping - to let people know that there was a problem so they can do something about it. :-p
Most people do get registered, but there are always going to be problems with a few names here and there.
