At the risk of sounding judgemental, anyone who identifies as being from Coventry is, at best, delusional. They need professional help.
That's because nobody is really from Coventry (well, ok, except avaritia - and paulw is from Bedworth, but that's an entirely different thing...). We've all just ended up here somehow, none of us originated here.
*smile* I really don't understand why people would want to get out of Coventry. I came here when I was 18, and since then I've had short spells of living in Manchester, Wolverhampton and Leamington, but I've always come back here.
What's wrong with it?
It's small - but then I grew up in York, so it's a comfortable size for me, plus it's easy to get to see anyone local any time, unlike large cities. Think how tough it would be to collect our RP mob if they were scattered all over London or Birmingham. It's not pretty or quaint - I grew up in York; it's a huge relief not to be swarmed out by tourists every summer. I don't know how the Edinbugh mob survive. It's dull - but it's also got good road and rail links to just about anywhere. It's got no shops - well, I've got no money, so what would I want with shops? seriously, if we don't have it, Birmingham's a couple of quid and half an hour away. In a big city you'd be doing that just to get into town. It's not got pretty hills or a coast - damn, you got me there.
I know. It's odd. Yes, Cov's about as far from the sea as one can get in england (I believe Meriden's actually the furthest point), but York is 40 miles or so from the sea, and yet I remember the playingfield behind my parents' house being swarmed with gulls...
I would like to point out to any passing reader, that I haven't lived there since I was 18. But alas I was indeed born in Walsgrave and spent my youth in the delightful area.
Ummm will there be any Cov goths left? everyone appears to be migrating.
Yep. Scary, isn't it? The exodus has begun, and [deity of choice] help the rest of the UK...
Congratulations on a successful escape, btw. May many of us follow your example, except for the 18 years bit... ;-)
Seriously, though, I think the old 'mob' is dispersing. There are still goths here - Asylum is busy enough - just not goths who went to Heresy @ Silvers or know those of us who did...

We may even get out again, someday.
