Wandered through a local Asda[1] the other day and was vaguely surprised to see mutton on sale. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever seen mutton on sale in a mainstream British supermarket.

It looks like Asda's just launched a range of halal meats and this is now one of 'em. Viewed from that angle, I'm surprised it took them so long to start doing this.

[1] - Explanation for those elsewhere in the world. Asda is Wal-Mart's British superstore chain.

I'm sure our Asda's been doing halal meat for ages? I remember seeing it a while back...

Caribbean women often use mutton as a substitute for goat meat here in the UK as it's harder to buy. I seem to recall a program on the tv about trading standards going on about how much of the meat described as "goat" sold in Birmingham is in fact mutton.

ASDA was bought out by Walmart, they didn't start off as a Walmart company IIRC.
They are notoriously hard to do business with as well:/

It won't last. The backbench MPs that led the foxhunting ban (Tony Banks et al) have now turned their sights on Halal/Kosher butchery. It'll be fishing after that.

Just to add to the Asda FAQ session.. there's a large distribution centre just down the road from me. The lorries go past my village on the way to the M1. Isn't that fascinating?!

Ahh but was it dressed as Lamb?

Fury mentions that you may have a lil crash space available for the Monday night at Whitby?

I was browsing DJ Saint's picture links for Infest UK and was vaguely surprised to see you on the page. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever seen you on that page before.

But lo and behold, a Morph (http://flavio-matani.fotopic.net/p7171560.html).
