(spoiler free, as there are certain to be players reading this... ;)

Sometimes, for no clear reason, it all seems to work. I'm not claiming that Monday was a perfect example of this, as it certainly wasn't flawless. But, as GM, I've not enjoyed a session that much in quite a while.

The characters all managed to meet up in one place (and we had a full set of players, aside from [livejournal.com profile] drivenapart, who couldn't make it due to work), and then stayed there and interacted for a bit. They listened to people calmly (...coldly?) explaining the proposed plan of action, they thought about it a bit, and then they reacted in a variety of different ways, pleading their cause(s) with the elders and trying to find out how everyone else saw the situation.

Not at all the session I expected it to be, but perhaps it's actually better that way. The party dynamics are now quite well defined, and nobody really seemed to be getting sidelined. The NPCs seemed to come across as distinct personalities (always a worry when there are several of them 'onstage'), and player speculation and conspiracy theories abound - they no longer seem to take anyone entirely at face value.

Which, IMHO, is exactly how it should be for Amber.

I hadn't, but it looks very good - and the concept sounds intriguing. Hmm. I see expenditure in my future, woe is me... ;)
