The latest excuse for Iraq:

It was all Iran's fault, they tricked us into invading so that they could take control of Iraq afterwards... yeah, that's it...

Funny. I thought that Bush invaded Iraq because he wanted to, and because he thought Saddam was 'too dangerous' to leave in place. We've heard - many times - that the absence of WMDs doesn't change that. He was still 'too dangerous'.

So how can it suddenly all be Iran's fault?

Because those cunning Iranians tricked us, and manipulated the entire US of A. Which means, damn, we better invade them too for the honour of our whole country, after all they're trying to manipulate us, they're trying to make nukes and they're interferring in Iraq.
It will only take a few weeks to invade and a couple more to set up the democracy afterwards, don't worry.

I was thinking that... then I was thinking "but they couldn't possibly be that stupid, could they...?"

Think very, very carefully about that question.

Aide: "Mr. President, the war in Iraq isn't going to work for your election, what we need is something to distract people from it."
Chimp: "Well, how about another wae, Iran's got it coming."
Aide: "Well we could fit them up for the Iraq thing, they're just next door so it wouldn't be that far to move the tanks."
Chimp: "Perfect, I'll be the hero of the middle east."

Hmm, interesting. Maybe once the US hands power over to the Iraqi interim government, they'll just roll a few tanks over Tehran on the way home. Sounds like a cost and time saver to me, eh? Jeez...

So the entire CIA and the world's most powerful nation were manipulated like pawns by some fat Iranian bloke. Laughable, but nowadays bizarrely.....expected. All we need now is for the yanks to torture Chalabi and get him to "confess" that Iran has the WMDs that the US thought Iraq had.

"Ouch, OK I'll tell you...ouch! We stole all the WMDs from Hussein...ow ow stop it stop it....yes we can launch the whole lot at the US and UK within 45 minutes....ooowwwwwwww!"

Well, after all, those pesky WMDs WERE in Iraq so MUST have gone SOMEWHERE, right?

If they did, it may not be the first time US intelligence was fooled by a Middle Eastern Nations spies.

In fact, if there is any truth to the current claim it adds credibility to the older one since large bureaucracies rarely learn by experience...

you should realise it was very convienent for US foriegn policy to be able to lay the blame for the bombing at the Libyans door, rather than say Iran based terrorists.
We want to attack nation X we fabricate some evidence. Off we go an drop bombs. Sound familair at all?

Absolutely, but it was even more convenient for Israel.

I'm sure Bush has learned his lessons in military intelligence and strategy - it's not the sort of thing you forget once you've figured it out.

Bit like riding a bike, really.
