I feel I should share this. Not because it's especially interesting, just because I feel the need to confess.

A couple of years ago - possibly more, actually - I visited my parents for the weekend and dad presented me with three AOL CDs he'd received through the post.

Aside from my sister, my family aren't on the internet and have never really used computers, so dad wasn't aware of AOL's business or reputation. I explained a little about this, saying that I already had an ISP and that even if I did want to change, AOL probably wouldn't be my choice. I also said that the CDs weren't of any value, and were probably best used as coasters.

As a result of this, my mum is not terribly happy with me. Dad has been collecting freebie CDs and using them as disposable coasters ever since. He likes them. He thinks they're really quite well suited for that role (and I'm not arguing...). But mum is definitely less than happy to see every table in the house adorned with a couple of CDs...

Hot chocolate and New Covent Garden soup. That's the point of microwaves, as far as I'm concerned.

It lets me heat soup in the carton and milk in the mug, so I don't have to worry about scrubbing a pot clean afterwards. And it only takes about five minutes, with very little human intervention.

If there's another important use for 'em, I haven't really found it yet. :)
