US vetoes UN Arafat resolution

And just what message is that going to send to the Middle East, I wonder? Yes, there should also be condemnation of the attacks on Israel. But there have already been several resolutions covering that - the issue for this one was whether or not Israel should be able to expel (or assassinate) someone else's democratically elected leader, however unpalatable they may find him.
Frankly, I can't see the point. About 80% of the population voted him in - so pretending that he's the one person behind it all is just stupid (then again, weren't we also told that Saddam was the source of the problem, and that when he stopped paying 'pensions' to the families of suicide bombers, the suicide bombings would stop? Or are we supposed to forget that claim now it's been proven false?).
Worth noting that the US was the only country to oppose the resolution, too.

Anyway, I figure we can't really blame the American people for Bush unless we take equal responsibility for Blair. At least equal, actually - we don't have the legal system and some dodgy chads to use as an excuse.

Date: 2003-09-17 12:06 am (UTC)Stupid things for example at the airport:
Question from Desk Clerk: did you pack your own bags, no one has had access to you bag?
Our reply: no (that is why they are locked)
I collect my bag on this side to find that the US security have broken the lock in order to search the bag - but they hadn't searched the bag at all. So what stops some one in Baggage Handling putting something in my bag?
They really dont think.
The cops over there are pretty heavy handed - we watched one of the COPS series and it took about 2 of them to take down a girl
Dont get me wrong, I like americans, and I have some really good friends who are from the US, but that country really is full of twats - especially when it comes to decision making!
(come to think of it, so do we)
*tries again*
