Shakira's on MTV again. Some things never change.
But this time so are Robbie Williams, Placebo and Wolfsheim. As well as a lot of German-language rap, a concept I still (unjustifiably?) find slightly strange...

Later
Started the day with a big breakfast. Half the fun of the Renaissance is the big buffet breakfasts. Cereal. Grilled tomato (...good enough that even I'll eat them, and I'm usually no fan of grilled tomatoes), gorgeous scrambled egg, smoked salmon, meatballs, olives, bacon, sausages, salami, a range of cheeses, sliced meats, fish and breads, fresh fruit...

Then off to the Sixtina for the traditional round of absinthe (Uncle Nem and Bunny joined us for this. We may have scared them off, as they didn't come back again... :-), followed by a trip to the campsite for our wristbands and programmes, including a predictable detour to the viking market for fruit wine. We spotted [livejournal.com profile] davefish on the way back, but couldn't really drag him away with us as he was embedded in a queue...

Then we went our various different ways. [livejournal.com profile] rosenkavalier and I caught the first couple of bands, at the Werk II (onstage before the "official" start of the festival) before heading off to see the big names at the main venue. the Agra.

Cinema Strange were... Cinema Strange. But this time with pink sailor suits, guitarists in drag (very I Want To Break Free...) and dismembered cuddly toys. Drop kicking cuddly bunny heads into the audience.

Dulce Liquido were entertaining, certainly better than last years show by their alter egos, Hocico.

Umbra et Imago... er.... No.

The Gathering seem much less metal, and much less impressive, than I'd expected. Stage presence? Anyone? Please?
