Gosh, I feel really safe now. With effect from February 1st, the following Policy Exception applies...

We will not pay for:
  1. Loss or destruction of, or damage to, any property whatsoever, or any loss and expenses whatsoever resulting or arising therefrom, or any consequential loss;
  2. Any legal liability of whatsoever nature;
  3. Death or injury to any person,

directly or indirectly caused by, or contributed to, by, or arising from Biological or Chemical contamination due to or arising from:
  • Terrorism; and/or
  • Steps taken to prevent, suppress, control or reduce the consequences of any actual attempted, threatened, suspected or perceived terrorism.
For the purposes of this exclusion "terrorism" means any act(s) of any person(s) or organisation(s) involving:
  • The causing, occasioning or threatening of harm of whatever nature and by whatever means;
  • Putting the public or any section of the public in fear,
in circumstances in which it is reasonable to conclude that the purpose(s) of the person(s) or organisation(s) concerned are wholly or partly of a political, religious, ideological or similar nature.

Lovely.

The causing, occasioning or threatening of harm of whatever nature and by whatever means

Bloody hell. That makes Bush's definitions look precise.

Are all companies doing this now?

"We would like to reassure you that these changes have been adopted by all UK household insurers. We are advised that the type and nature of the risk shown in the attached Policy Exception is not available under any UK householder policy, nor has it ever been the intention that such incidents would be covered"

That's one hell of a definition of "reassure", too...

So basically you're only insured for minor acts of god(s) or structure problems?
That sucks.
I'd better check my policies...

I think you're okay for burglary/vandalism ... as long as the perp doesn't claim they did it as part of their belief system.

Hmmm... someone accidentally driving a lorry into your house (then driving away before anyone gets their number) certainly *used* to be covered by house insurance; it happened to a friend of mine.

But apparently that's terrorism now, not incompetent handling of sharp bends...?

"My ideology maintains that getting caught for this sort of thing is a bad idea, so I'm buggering off".

Yep, sounds like terrorism by their definition...
