Earlier this week, The Independent described Obama as the "smart bet for first black president of the United States". The BBC website said much the same in their coverage of his speech. geekchick and others have already pointed out, it's a good speech.
(I still find it slightly scary that if he wins the upcoming Illinois election he'll be only "the fifth black senator in history", mind you. Not that the UK is that much better in this regard...)
