Ow, ow, ow...
Aug. 12th, 2002 09:36 amJust woke up. Went to bed at about 1:30 yesterday afternoon, after a six hour train/bus (two trains, two buses) journey home post-Slimelight & Resurrection gig.
Getting there was slightly easier. Three and a half hours (two trains, one bus), a little longer than expected, though - so I missed the very start of TFoS.
The gig was good (and packed - I can't remember the last time I saw the Underworld so busy!), although TFoS were just a little bit loud for me (sounded great once I'd retreated towards the bar, though). Manuskript were Manuskript, and fun as ever - did they ever explain why Mike was in a vicar's outfit? Inkubus Sukkubus were good/polished, and played all the old favourites for once (I think the only Supernature song was 'Lucifer Rising').
Saw Alan, Heather, Markus,
mouseboks,
avaritia, Taoist, Natasha, Margaret (who I've not seen in years and still owe a photo which I borrowed to scan Way Back When...), Dave Exile,
davefish and assorted other familiar faces.
After that it was on to Slimelight. Where
sexbat tried to kill us all through heat exhaustion. He so nearly succeeded, too...
It wasn't a complete trad coup - instead, they'd re-opened the third floor (which was the "goth" room back when I first went to Slimelight, something which added a touch of nostalgia), and the other two were much the same as normal. The third floor (actually the ground floor) was fun. March Violets, New Model Army, Zodiac Mindwarp, Virgin Prunes, Danielle Dax, Mission... (someone tells me I missed Shriekback and Sex Beat, too) ...er, I danced a bit, just a bit...
I briefy wandered upstairs to catch the end of the Galan Pixs set, which was better than expected. They have drums, guitars and things. Most unexpected. Good stage presence, but I still have an... aversion... to their material.
Generally, much fun was had. Spent much of the evening chatting to Alan,
mouseboks,
kitty_goth (who I'd not seen in ages), drinking Slimelight tea and bouncing about.
The trains were a definite downside, though. This will continue 'til December, they say. That's going to force me to think very hard about going to London gigs etc at weekends - they've got to be something special to justify spending nine hours (instead of the usual two and a bit) on trains and buses.
