From the hype, it looks like the new Iain Banks novel uses the WTC attacks as a major plot point.

I wish I could feel confident that he'd do something worthwhile with that subject matter - but there's a little bit of my brain that wonders if, to some degree, it's just a cheap trick to get some attention for a once-controversial author who's now getting stuck in a rut and becoming part of the establishment...

Or even worse - Banks attempting to be relevant and point out some hidden moral truths about the whole mess. I do hope not.

Oh dear. Then again, I liked "The Business" more than anyone else seems to have. I haven't read any of his stuff since then, though there's a borrowed new-ish Iain M. Banks sitting downstairs that I haven't got around to yet.

He did write a short story about the Lockerbie bombing, many years ago. It's rather good. So it's not actually outside his previous range of topics.
