The C8 report (part the second)
Jun. 11th, 2002 12:25 amSo, where was I? Oh. Yes. Montreal...
Then... well, actually I can't quite remember what happened next, but I ended up in the lobby again. When in doubt, sit in the lobby and wait for something to happen. In this case, the "something" was a mob of goths deciding to go to a sushi restaurant for lunch, so I joined them. This was how I got to meet Dag and
razorjak, as well as Crystabell.
The sushi plan went slightly wrong (we found the restaurant, but even if it had been empty we couldn't have seated the whole mob in there...) so we went to a Vietnamese restaurant instead, which was great. It also served Tsingtao beer, which was a definite plus (I'm not beer-obsessed, ok? I just like good beer. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it). Anecdotes were swapped, silliness occurred and generally all went well - I really can't remember who else was there, as at that point I was a bit overwhelmed with names and faces. It'll all become clearer when someone publishes photos, I'm sure.
Then back to the Delta for the Meet'n'Greet, at which point the familiar faces started to stack up.
inulro and Jason,
saiira,
godgirl, Uncle Nemesis and Bunny Peculiar,
sexbat and the whole Swarf/CE/Wasp Factory mob. Including
markeris, who was busily losing his voice at this point. Full marks to the mob for silly laminate names - the best one being Vere Kevorkian's, which included "B'stard" and some other stuff I've now forgotten. It's a miracle that they fitted it all on one tag.
minusbat, who I've seen about for years but had never really spoken to before, wandered up and cheerfully accused me of not recognising him. As it turned out, he'd mistaken me for
razornet. My inner Graham was obviously shining through. ;)
This was roughly the point when I ran into James Muir, which surprised me as I'd last seen him in Coventry, about a year earlier. I still have no idea what he's been doing or how he got to Convergence. And then a bunch of us (Saiira, Imago, James & Crystabell) went back to my room and did the room service thing. I took the opportunity to get a photo of James (with a newspaper, to prove date/Country), and also got one of Crystabell playing dead (soon to be online with the caption "Ok, own up - who killed Crystabell?").
After that it was 'get ready for the Spectrum' time, and we all went out to watch bands, dance and have fun. Much fun was had. CMAFA were crazed and silly, This Ascension weren't bad but (live) weren't quite my thing, Bella Morte were excellent. Eventually we all came home again. I really can't remember if I went to a room party that night - I don't think I did, but it all blurs a bit in memory.
Friday
Up bright and early again, a regrettable trend that lasted the whole weekend. I actually made it to breakfast this time, and found a couple of other goths lurking there. I think this was also the day with the France/Senegal opening World Cup game. I certainly remember seeing it over breakfast (and cackling with pure evil when France lost) at some point in the weekend. See, I do like football in the right circumstances. ;)Then... well, actually I can't quite remember what happened next, but I ended up in the lobby again.
