Three albums have been living in my CD player since Sunday - Mesh's "Who Watches Over You", Devin Townsend's "Ocean Machine" and Manuskript's "Natural High".
The Manuskript album is filling me with great expectations for Whitby. It's good - bleaker and stompier than their previous stuff. Semaphore in Thunderstorms is probably the high point - I can see it going down a storm live. Lyrics that stick in your head, too (such as the lines I've quoted for the title).
The Devin Townsend album is also good, but in a different way. I've not really given it the attention it deserves, but it's perfect background listening - if such a thing can be said about metal - it doesn't demand your focus, but I don't find it wanting if I do stop to listen to it for a moment. If that makes sense.
And the Mesh album...? Well, the first track (Firefly) isn't bad, and neither's Friends Like These. But not a lot else grabs me - and Little Missile may stick in your head, but it does so in an annoyingly twangy "I wish it wouldn't" sort of way. It just feels like more of the same, really...

Devin Townsend
I'll have to chuck you some of the other stuff he's done...the man is a metal messiah!
