...it's really rather good, isn't it?

It is indeed! I loved season one but thought it lacked teeth, if you'll pardon the pun. Not so with this season so far.

I found episode one quite terrifying, and am wondering whether to watch episode two or give up on the grounds that it's too scary!

I found episode 2 much scarier - and heartbreakingly sad in places too.

I'd agree on the heartbreakingly sad bit. This is not a show where the characters - or the status quo - feel safe...

Haven't seen #3 yet, mind you.

No, me neither. Will probably watch it on iPlayer on Tuesday night - too late to start watching anything now.

I'm enjoying it. It's fun to know where the locations are shot. :)

I'm actually finding the change of pace very jarring. The first season started with a good premise, about how people who are "different" are integrated into society (or not) and how they deal with everyday challenges.

Now it's disappeared up it's own continuity backside with ever larger and more outlandish plot arcs. The whole point of the series at the start, was that these people were humdrum folk trying to get on with their daily lives (or afterlives). Now apparently one of them's the greatest vampire that ever was and the world is threatened by a squat ginger street patrol bobby and his mates from Bristol. It feels like they changed scriptwriter half way through the first series, brought in someone from Torchwood and lost the point of the show.

you are bound to adore the new series Vampire Diaries which starts this week. Vampires do seem to be the flavour of the month

Hi, been watching your journal for a bit due to similar interests.

Yeah Season two is really good so far.

The thing I am really liking is the development of the vampiric society, such as how they keep their 'masquerade', things that have never really been explored in other series of the same types (maybe a little in Moonlight perhaps).

I also like how they are taking a scientific stance on the werewolf curse, figuring that a pressure change triggers the change.

Add to that the interesting death/ghost mythos they are developing.
