I was getting display problems when I tried to load the site in Firefox; source code was there, but the display was a blank page. It's working for me right at the moment though.
There are two distinct problems. First, the main pages are dreadfully cluttered with applets which cause all but the most speedy of computers to hang - momentarily or permanently - when rendering the page. Second, their servers are often (but not always) overburdened.
I actually upgraded my main machine from a 1.5GHz single core 768MB RAM to a 2.5GHz dual core 2GB RAM just so it could render pages like Facebook, BBC iPlayer etc. better. Previously I'd been booting up my 3.5GHz dual-core gaming monster just to do rich-media web browsing.
http://lite.facebook.com may help. It's Facebook without the applets and with the AJAX calmed down a bit.
Just tried to update my FB status and it was fucking around and refusing to do it :o( It wasn't a particularly *interesting* update, but then FB is specifically geared towards telling the world about your random crap...
