I wandered into Tesco earlier, intending to restock the empty fridge. Somehow, I ended up wandering down the video games aisle and glancing at the PS3 games.

Prince of Persia.
Resistance 2.
Tomb Raider: Underworld.

"Hmm", I thought, "I'm getting a bit behind with my gaming - still working my way through GTA IV and Bioshock; haven't even started Fallout 3 yet, and here are three games I was really looking forward to..."

And then I wandered off. An aisle or two later, I idly wondered if this meant that I'd improved my willpower, or just that I wasn't entirely feeling well...?

Ten minutes after that, I reached the checkout and realised that a copy of Tomb Raider was in my basket. Once I noticed it, I did remember putting it there - but I'd blanked it completely in the interval, once it was safely hidden under the multiseed bagels and cavolo nero...

Ooops.

Every time I see the current Tomb Raider TV ad, I am faintly disappointed that it is for the game and not for deodorant or something. Which is very wrong of me.

You know how little TV I watch? Haven't even seen it... :-)

I pretty much only watch music TV these days, so it's entirely possible that the ad is only playing on those channels...

It's not that I dislike computer games... I just have very little interest in them - completed Golden Axe, oh, about twenty years ago, and have a very distinct memory of pouring white russian into my lap instead of a glass whilst watching [personal profile] jero commit havoc on Sonic the Hedgehog (we'd borrowed a games console for the weekend). But then again, Ian did end up writing a version of Tetris for me on the Amiga...

i am still trying to decide whether to go for an XBOX360 or keep with Sony and get a PS3, primarily for TR:Underworld at this stage. I hear the PS3 is quieter, and easier to upgrade too?

Quieter by far - we've been buying PS3 versions of 360 games we already have for a while now due to that reason alone. Otherwise the telly is up loud enough to wake the Wee One to make itself heard over the fan of the 360! O_o

PS3 is also kinda useful as a Blu-ray player for us. Also, most of the peripherals (at least the ones we have gotten) could either be generic or PS3 branded, which is very handy. The machine itself is also higher quality build - though I understand that xbox are very good about repairing within a couple of weeks when their machines fail.

You've done better on us then for willpower - current list of purchased games in the last month or so is as follows:

Lego Batman, Mirror's Edge, Little Big Planet, Call of Duty: World at War, Bioshock, Resistance 2, Farcry, Fallout 3 (and I've probably missed some!)

I think that the only two we haven't got yet are that voice command battle one (name escapes me) and, amusingly enough, Tomb Raider, so let us know if it's any good! Reviews put it in the same league as Uncharted, so we're hoping! :)

Apparently the release schedule for the first quarter is meant to be as good, so fair warning!

Asked other half for his view incase it is of help ->

PS3 advantages

Wireless internet
Blu ray player
Quieter
Exclusive titles

PS3 disadvantages

Less powerful GPU – multi platform games tend to run and look a bit better on 360
360 exclusive titles

thanks!
Yeah, i think the fact that it is a blu-tay player and already has built in wireless is a big selling point. Shame the new PS3 doesn't have PS" backward compatability but that's a minor point.
Just gotta find me a bargain now :)

The backwards compatibility wasn't flawless anyway - mostly, it's fine, but I have a few PS2 favourites (e.g. SSX) that it just can't cope with. I'm not entirely sure, but I think there are a couple of minor graphics quirks on other games (PS Tomb Raider, PS2 FInal Fantasy X), too.
