The first episode of Bonekickers airs tomorrow night.

A few newspapers have written slightly mixed reviews about the first episode - generally, they seem to think that the cast is great but the plot's not quite up to the same standard.

On the other hand, it's also from the team behind Life on Mars, so I'm quite happy to give it a chance - at least for an episode or three.

I thought it looked okay until I saw that it involved spooky-arsed religious bollocks.

Indeed - the 'piece of the True Cross' nonsense turned me right off it. Do you know that if you put together all the 'pieces of the True Cross' that are in shrines around the world, not only would you not end up with anything cross-shaped, it would be three times the size and made of at least five different woods?

...yes, but...

That doesn't automatically stop it from inspiring entertaining TV, though.

In much the same way that the Ark of the Covenant makes a lovely mcguffin for Raiders of the Lost Ark, for example.

And there's always scope for a little onscreen cynicism, too, although I don't know if we'll get that in this one.

I just want to mention by way of reflected glory, http://silly-swordsman.livejournal.com/39731.html - the pleb's eye view of filming.

There may be spoilers in the internal links.
