Right then. It's Sunday night. Time to stir things up...

  • I know a whole bunch of you were doing the Maelfroth thing
  • ...and more than a few of you have also mentioned Ptolus

I suppose this just proves that I know a lot of LARPers and tabletop gamers. No surprise there. But I don't think that many of you know each other - at least not through me - as you've ended up on my friends list from a number of different directions.

So. Anyone for introductions and random nattering about either or both of the topics mentioned above? :)

I am an avid role-player, who has LARPed once and liked it. I have precious little free time these days, but enjoy running Feng Shui and playing other stuff I find time for.

I've not kept up to speed with Ptolus, but Monte Cook's 3rd Ed stuff in his blog is a lot of sense, and he seems archetypal of how it should be done. In particular, some of his criticisms of 3.5 I would agree with.

So, what is it all about? Does it have neat stuff like racial levels?

I know very few of the LARPers on your friends list - as such there could have been loads of them at Maelstrom that I completely ignored :-)

That's what I figured. And you're not the only one. You've probably been hitting/scamming each other all weekend without realising. Hence the post. :)

I have a copy of Ptolus and I was thinking of running a variant game based on it. Less Dungeon hack more player driven . I discussed it with [livejournal.com profile] lostdreamer666 and we also chewed over the pros and cons of running a D&D campaign.

Given the size of the book I'm at least 1 month away from doing anything real with it.

Ptolus is a complete fantasy city that has high production values throughout, in its artwork, writing and physical layout.

My idea is a game where the players and campaign grow organically together. A game that allows players to lead and not wholly DM lead.

I know a couple of people who did/had/were/saw/went to (whatever the appropriate verbage is) Maelstrom. However, I have absolutely no idea what LARPing is. It sounds kinda rude though, which I approve of.

Guilty as charged with Maelfroth. I was a priest. It is fun being a religeous fanatic and getting to shout a lot. FIRE AND FAITH!

I am Paul

I am LARPER

RP gets me away from my normal life. Isn't this sad...

Maelstrom - I'm the Slightly Mad, Very Drunk Alchemist Philo, known amongst the Flambard as 'Experiment'. Just Philo, or 'that bloke with the dangerous drinks' to most other factions.
