harum... while I like Warren Ellis, I'm not so keen on Marvel, or superheroes (I'm guessing that's what New Universe is?)

How are they bringing the New Universe back anyway?

I mean I know the Starbrand crossed over to mainstream Marvel back in the '90s and Justice ended up in the 2099 storylines as Lost Prophet.

It was their attempt to do an unrelated "start from scratch" people-with-powers but not superhero line, about twenty years back. Some of it worked well. Most of it didn't.

Ellis is planning to put a sf spin on it, from the sound of things. And won't be tied down by the old continuity.

...and most of it ended up in Exiles a few months back, too, according to people who read that.

I think he's reinventing rather than continuing. No direct links to previous continuity.

Which is fine (IMO) for stuff like Spitfire and Nightmask, which never really found its feet. But I liked a lot of the stuff that was done with Psi-Force and Justice, so I'm hoping they don't throw away the fun bits along with the rest...
