"In less than 72 hours, Tony Blair will almost certainly have gone to the Palace to call the general election"

So say the Liberal Democrats, anyway. They're almost certainly right.

It's going to be a very nasty month, politically speaking. The Conservatives already have posters up on Coventry billboards, saying things like "It's not racist to impose limits on immigration" (their campaign slogan is "Are you thinking what we're thinking?" - and y'know, funnily enough I'm not.)

Strangely, it's quite tricky to find that particular poster image online (maybe they just think it plays better on billboards?) but you can see one of the other posters in the same campaign here, on their site. Charming, isn't it?

[I'd rant about this in more detail, but I've just spotted that someone else has already said it all]

Our local Labour party is playing off this with scare tactics of their own, suggesting that any vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote for the crazy Conservatives and do we really want to take that chance...

Well now. This is going to be interesting, isn't it?

And I stand by what I said after the US elections (well, aside from the "not demonising the Conservatives" bit - this ad campaign has put an end to that). Four more years of Labour, probably with at least two more years of Tony. Do you really want that? And if not, what are you going to do about it?

Oh, it's 'The law should protect me, not burglars' - James N and I drive past one of those every Thursday, but it's been adbusted and we couldn't think what it was supposed to be. Our guess was that it was something to do with benefit fraud.

As far as the letter goes, I got either something similar or the same one with a different constituency pasted in this week - does it begin 'Over the last months I have been listening'?

That racist one has been modified in two different ways around by us. First one has BNP stickers on it. I forget the second one... but it's a horrible campaign that has just sealed them not ever getting my vote. not that they ever did mind...

Are you thinking what we've thinking?
I think so Michael, but how are we going to convince people we have a clue if we can't find our own arses in burlap pants?

I am a coward. I am a natural Lib Dem, but the risk of years of Howard with the nasty racist attitudes is too frightening....

Another vote against the Tories may result in the Lib Dems becoming the official opposition, and then possibly in government in a decade or so. My view is do what you can to vote against the worst enemy - Howard and his unpleasant gang - those who you and I now consider well and truly 'demonised'!

Thanks for the link to my rant!

The "it's not racist" poster round the corner from ours has had a swastika spray painted on it.

If I ever get collared by a Tory candidate, I can confidently say "I'm an immigrant so you don't want my vote anyway".

The only good outcome of a Tory election victory is that it might get Him Indoors a little more motivated to leave the country with me.
