Back to Coventry on the 27th, to be greeted by an ice cold house and discover that every other Cov-based person had suddenly left the city, or was hibernating. So the new Playstation2 acquisitions got my undivided attention for a while - Silent Hill 2 (Addictive and very, very creepy in a cthulhu-meets-Hellraiser sort of way...) and SSX Tricky (which, aside from being rather fun, has a very silly anime spoof joke buried in one character's biography - she moonlights as the voice actress for "exploding orange girl" or some such...:).

My sister Elaine was visiting for NY and thereabouts, and turned up on the Friday. At which point the grand tour of Coventry's pubs and restaurants commenced. Wandered 'round a lot, ate a lot of good food, drank a lot of good beer (I failed to get to Alexander Wines yet again, alas - must get there and buy things pre-Heresy!). We spent Saturday night in the Windmill with [livejournal.com profile] ijw, Greg, a bunch of Wwk goths and assorted other reprobates.

[livejournal.com profile] dmh turned up for NYE itself, and was promptly used as a test subject for a lamb stew recipe from the new Uzbek cookbook. Both he and Elaine appear to have lived, so it can't have been that bad... ;)

And the rest of the day was (of course) spent in the Whitefriars, along with umpteen Heretics and other coventry folk. Plus a surprise appearance from Ridley and Chrissy - back from New York for the usual end-of-year whistlestop UK tour.

I know it's customary to describe NYE as a drunken blur, but I'm blessed (or is that cursed?) with a memory that works well even when I'm foolishly pissed, so that's not strictly true. It was all (except for the antics of [livejournal.com profile] dmh and Drew...) very respectable, anyway. Lots of beer and good humour, and no hangover. So I was up bright and early - and the only real downside of New Years Day was the cold and the tricky task of finding a place that was open and selling beer/food for lunch!

The less happy news is that my uncle Bob died just before the New Year. I really didn't know him well (I'd seen him about once in the last decade), although he was only just 'down the road' in Tamworth, so I'm not directly affected by this. But dad may well be. And dad is also likely to be visiting me for a day or two if/when he attends the funeral. And, of course, it's one more reminder that my parents are getting older. *sigh* :-(

/me is slack and can't be bothered to go find your email address :)
You mentioned something last year about having a decent place for Whitby accomodation in April, do you think they'd still have space? If so, could you throw me some contact details?

Yep, that's slack... ;-)

I think they had one small single room and a number of twins left, when last I heard. [livejournal.com profile] ijw,[livejournal.com profile] imago and Tim are also staying there... and [livejournal.com profile] dmh might be, too. If he gets his act together.

Contact details now mailed to the address on your LJ profile page...
