That's gone a little way towards restoring my faith in justice. I don't claim to know whether or not the guy they've released is innocent... but I think the point is that the government can't claim to know either...

It could be worse - at least Blunkett's going through due process. When Michael Howard was Home Secretary, the high court struck down a number of his decisions as just plain unlawful - a greater number than any other home secretary before or since, I believe. The thought of a man with that kind of attitude to the law becoming PM should give anybody pause.
