'Twas the week before Whitby
Oct. 29th, 2001 11:58 amI am now officially the walking dead. My brain has ceased to function. My legs still work. Sort-of.
Where to begin...? Probably with NecroscopE, back on Friday Oct 19th. It was playing host to a Narcissus Pool and Synthetic gig, and much fun was had by all. Top sets from both bands.
Then, on the Saturday, I did the London De/Vision + Evil's Toy gig. And Slimelight. I should not be allowed to Slimelight unless supervised by a responsible adult. :)
Sunday mostly involved sleep. Followed by a week of overtime and getting stuff out of the intray prior to Whitby. Which brings us up to this last weekend...
I was going to be in London at the Ataraxia gig on the Friday, but it was cancelled, so I ended up at Whitefriars instead. Followed by a trip to the Campbell 'cheese and 80's night', in the company of the Warwick mob. And we'll say no more about that. Anyone who claims they saw me dancing to Toni Basil is clearly deluded.
Saturday was another London trip - to the London Underworld, to see Psychophile, D.U.S.T., Libitina and Inkubus Sukkubus. Not that I actually saw much of Inkies or Libitina, as I was talking to
mouseboks, M'Elston, Davefish and folks at the bar for most of their set. Ooops.
This was followed by a trip to Slimelight, with
allezbleu and
nadnad catching a lift there in Marc's van (as did someone else, whose name I've completely forgotten - sorry!). I repeat my previous statement about Slimelight. In this context, Marc is not considered a responsible adult.
Headed down to Southampton with Marc post-Slimelight, and dropped in on my family for a coffee. Marc has also given me a pair of new boots, btw, which don't fit him but fit me just fine.... as the ones I ordered still haven't arrived, and Whitby is Real Soon Now, this is a godsend.
And then, of course, it was Black Celebration. It was fun. Saw
araqnid and (mad) Sue, plus umpteen other familiar faces - Rob & Twig, Jeremy, Spiky Dave, Graham C, Pete Scathe, Markus and Heather, Chris, Kev & Carol, nadnad and Allezbleu (who kept losing him...) again, Naamah Dust, Paul, the Brumgoff posse, Jim/Taoist, Natasha... just a little bit hectic! Most of the bands were excellent, too - I missed Sulpher and Suicide Commando, and wasn't too struck on the Borg, but everyone else was top notch.
Special mention to Leech Woman and Freudstein, who were both much better than the first time I saw them play live. Freudstein get some extra points for coping well when their guest vocalist (Liz from Swarf) got stuck on the tube, too... she came rushing in, clutching carrier bags, with literally seconds to spare. Straight onstage (and immediately handed a beer!) and straight into the song... :)
Right. Enough wibbling. Lunchbreak over, time to go back to work, methinks...
