That was foolish. But a good evening, nonetheless.
Firstly, it was Ray's last night in Coventry, which meant that a lot of people were out at WF.
I remember, many years ago ('95?), the whole "honest Ray's plutonium" business, and the A4 posters (of Ray, in his underwear, tied to a chair) that
tya did to accompany it. I also remember him saying that when he left Cov, or Ray did (whichever happened first), he'd flypost a few hundred around Coventry. Tonight we discovered that he wasn't joking. :)
[I grabbed a copy for
cyberinsekt, just for old times sake... :-)]
Mostly, though, I was there with
mrbear and the mob. We drank beer. Then we drank more beer. Then Laura somehow persuaded us to go to the D&T.
The Dog & Trumpet is home to Coventry's teenage nu-metallers. The music, when it's not a "special" night, is a mix of old metal, nu metal, cheesy rock and so forth. I used to go there with Russ, Nigel (whatever happened to Nigel?), Matt, Rich and
paulw, back in '91. I've been back about once a year since then, and it's not changed that much.
It may make
mrbear feel old, but it just makes me feel at home. In an odd kind of "I want to move out, very swiftly" sort of way. They played Faith No More's Epic, Ministry's Thieves and NIN's Head Like A Hole within a few minutes of us arriving, which only added to the oddness - all songs I remember them playing Way Back When.
But I was skint, drunk and liable to be a hazard to myself and others [...], so I came home instead. Sensible, that's me. Honest. :)
