Weebl's Stuff - Owls!

As pointed out by [personal profile] deathboy. The best thing I've seen from Weebl's Stuff in a while.

It's only slightly insane.

newuniversal - the Warren Ellis reinvention of Marvel's New Universe concept - was really rather good. Six issues of intriguing plots and very pretty artwork. It's not a million miles away from Heroes, in some ways - something which Warren himself has commented on (the two surfaced at about the same time, iirc).

The second series, newuniversal: shockfront hasn't quite grabbed me in the same way (again, draw your parallels to Heroes here... :) - possibly because the art has changed; possibly because it was a long gap, we've only got two issues out and I'm not yet sure where it's going.

However, we do now have a one-shot special to fill the gap between issues; newuniversal: 1959 is a prequel set in 1959, with just one character from the main series. It also has a rather.. unexpected... guest appearance (I'm surprised it's not on [community profile] scans_daily yet!).

It's written by Kieron Gillen, who also wrote the excellent Phonogram, and it's well worth a look.

You are in a mall when zombies attack. You have:
1. One weapon
2. One song blasting on the speakers
3. One famous person to fight along side you.

1) XM214 Microgun - which seems to be about as close as you can get to Hollywood's beloved minigun...

2) Fields of the Nephilim, "Moonchild".

3) Winston Churchill, or possibly Lucy Liu.

The memes, they're getting sillier...
