Well, today ParcelFarce got it right, and finally redelivered my package from Amazon. So I've spent a happy few hours reading the new Iain (no 'M') Banks book, Dead Air. It's pretty good - perhaps not one of his best, but still far better than his last one, The Business.
Oddly enough, it's not got one of his usual black and white covers, btw - possibly he's changed publisher? However, it does have politics, sex, gangsters and Banks' attempt to capture a Sarf London accent on the page. Fun.
The 9/11 connection is mostly used to root the happenings in the here and now - in the same way that Israeli politics and various pop groups are mentioned. Although some of the rants from the protagonist, DJ Ken Nott, are just a little bit pointed - such as his offhand 9/11 "wasn't an attack on democracy; if it was they'd have crashed a plane into Al Gore's house" comment.
