Well, that was handy in that I've been vaguely wondering what the 'op' in 'op art' stood for for years but hadn't twigged that it was 'optical'. Interesting, but not really my kind of thing.
I think she was the frist modern painter whose works I knowingly encountered, as the engineering block at the college at which my father taught had some of the 1960s black and white prints on the walls, and I used to stand and look at them in fascination.
I've seen one of her large wall-paintings in the Egyptian tomb colours live, though there was a good TV documentary on her shift to colour quite some years back, and I've always wanted to see more - and, to be honest, we don't get many good art shows in the Coventry area; they tend mostly to be the Massey Ferguson Painters Group's annual exhibition of bad Contstablealikes.
