So, the 4th of July's here again. Time to slouch on the sofa and play Aimee Mann songs, I think.

Whatever? is a fine, fine album - but I find her "concept" albums dull and same-y. I clocked off after she did the one about the boxer. Have you heard "Everything's Different Now" by 'Til Tuesday, her previous band? Marvellous album... intelligent pop & some wonderful tunes.

I bought I'm With Stupid and Bachelor No. 2, but nothing after that - neither was quite as good as Whatever?.

I've got the 'Til Tuesday retrospective, but none of the original albums. Might have to search them out...

I've got a sneaking feeling that it was you who pointed me at Aimee Mann and/or 'Til Tuesday in the first place, btw: I think you recommended Whatever? back when I was listening to AAE and Ruby Blue...?

Oh, and in case you haven't heard it, Aimee Mann also lends some vocals to Jim White's Static on the Radio (on the 'Drill a Hole in That Substrate and Tell Me What You See") album. Worth a listen. Allegedly, it's country and western. Good track and a good album, though... :)
