Dead saint (or three), anyone? Not that anyone seems to know much about any of 'em.

Anonymous posting is on. IP address logging is off. Feel free to share your thoughts and/or rants regarding Feb 14th.

tautology

Aren't all saints dead? Isn't that the point?

I think [livejournal.com profile] mhw had some comments on that recently, actually... I'm not an expert, although I did think you needed to be dead first.

Bloody chore. The wife'll get upset if I forget it. One of my colleagues thought it'd be romantic to propose on Feb 14th. So, every year she expects the full treatment. Whatever that is. Except this year he's off to Japan on business on the 14th... Oh how we laughed.

Pete and I don't bother with Valentine's Day, and never have. We've managed without it for 12 years now. If someone needs a special day to take their loved one out or buy a present, their relationship is in bad shape...

Insert standard rant about Valentine's Day, with added I woke up feeling like I have ANOTHER virus coming on, which is most annoying as I have Stuff to do.

I did tell Jason that if there's any half price chocolate at Sainsburys tomorrow to bring some home.

Am I the only single person on the planet who actually likes Valentine's Day?

We could always conduct a poll and find out.

St Cyril and Methodius were missionaries to Russia. Methodius invented the Cyrillic alphabet to help with the spreading of the gospel.

More here (and there is quite a bit, too.

Nobody knows much about the three St Valentines whose feast occurs today;. one appears to be a priest, another a bishop (but they're buried in different places, so they're not the same person); but Chaucer thought that this was the days when birds mated, so that's when we do lovey stuff. Apparently.

It's true that I made sorbet, and my husbvand likes sorbet, but that was irrelevant to the day.

Its also the start of the Thoroughbred Stud Season today, I dont think its related to Valentines day more to do with the 11 month gestation period of the horse...

The managing directors of Hallmark and Interflora probably like it quite a lot too.

it can be a bit perplexing when somewhere between single and confused.

Or so they tell me.

I started going out with my partner on Feb 14th, which she says was to cut down on the number of number of events each year. Typically we go out for a meal or something on any day but the 14th, to avoid the rush.
